You too can teach your child to read!

“A Good Start Reading” comes to you from over thirty years of teaching reading as a public school reading teacher, special education teacher, as well as through vast private tutoring experience. It is exactly what the title implies: a good start. It is designed for very beginning readers who can identify all the alphabet letters and the corresponding sounds. “A Good Start Reading” teaches children how to read and discriminate short vowel words (cat, bed, hot, etc.) and gives them an understanding of the reading process.

“A Good Start” is here to offer you a solution.

Consistently, parents of new and struggling readers express that they don’t know how to teach their child to read and additionally, that they don’t feel qualified or confident to take on the challenge. Often this situation becomes frustrating for both the parent and the child.

  • Are you looking for the key to open up the world of reading to your child?
  • Are you looking for a cost effective program that you can teach yourself rather than hiring a professional tutor?
  • Are you searching for a program that offers consistency, repetition, and simplicity of use?
  • Are you looking to just open the book and be guided as to what to do and say?
  • Are you excited to have a fun and enjoyable time teaching your child to read?

These are the reasons “A Good Start” was created. Our mission is to help parents create a generation of strong readers.

Program Overview

"A Good Start" is designed to be the beginning foundation that your child needs to become a strong reader, writer, and speller. It may be used prior to the instructional books and resources in your homeschool program or alongside your homeschool program. "A Good Start" was created to give parents a program to jump start and unlock their child's understanding of how we learn to read, as well as an instructional guide for teaching beginning reading.

Program Details

The program begins with downloadable Book A and Book B to teach children the letters of the alphabet. In Book A, "Learning About the Alphabet", you will teach beginning readers about the uppercase and lowercase alphabet letter names and to associate each letter with a corresponding picture.

In Book B, "Learning More About the Alphabet", you will teach beginning readers about the sound each letter of the alphabet makes through the use of memorable graphics.

Upon completion of Book B, children move into Book 1: Short "a" Words and move sequentially through Books 1-5 to master new words with each vowel pattern.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Will I really be able to teach my child to read with "A Good Start Reading"? Yes, you will! Our signature program teaches you how to teach beginner readers in an easy-to-follow, fun, repetitive format with precise directions.
  2. How is "A Good Start Reading" different from other reading programs? Often, many other reading programs move too quickly, causing confusion and discouragement. "A Good Start Reading" moves ahead at a slow, repetitive pace so new readers have time to assimilate previous learning before moving on. You as the teacher can adjust the pace determined by your child's ability to grasp and retain the lessons presented. Like learning any new skill, new readers need time and repetition to learn to read.
  3. Should "A Good Start Reading" Books 1-5 be taught in order? Yes, each book builds on the knowledge taught in the previous book.
  4. How will I know if my child understands what I am teaching? Each lesson has a checklist at the end of it for you to assess your child's reading of the introduced words.
